Overview
When interpreting your Extole dashboards and reporting, it’s important to understand the concepts of Visit Type and Quality. These allow you to view your referral performance from different perspectives.
Visit Type
Extole uses the Visit Type filter to display performance data in three distinct ways:
New to Client
The participant’s first time ever completing a tracked action (such as a purchase) with your brand, across all programs and campaigns—not just Extole.
New to Program
The participant’s first time completing a specific action within a particular Extole referral program (for example, their first referred purchase for that specific campaign, which may not be their first purchase with your brand).
All
All instances of the tracked event for a referred friend, including repeat or subsequent actions (e.g., if a customer made 3 purchases after being referred, all 3 purchases are counted). This is a way to track a referral’s lifetime value.
Visit Type | What It Measures | When It’s Useful |
New to Client | First-ever action with your brand | To track net new customer acquisition |
New to Program | First action in a specific referral campaign | To measure program-specific impact |
All | Every tracked action (including repeats) | To understand all activity by a person initially driven by referral |
Visit Type in Extole Reporting
By default, Extole uses New to Program on friend events (such as Signups, Conversions, New Accounts, etc) on campaign dashboards and in event reports.
Advocate events such as Promotion Clicks, Shares, or Share Clicks will use the All visit type, as it’s an event that you would want to track every time it’s done.
Note: If you are pulling an event or conversion report and it’s not matching the dashboard, check to see if you are using the correct New to Program visit type.
If you’d prefer to see data on your dashboards using the New to Client or All Visit type, reach out to your CSM to help configure them.
High & Low Quality
Extole uses Quality filters to provide more insight into which referral events meet reward eligibility and anti-fraud criteria.
High Quality
Events that pass Extole’s quality and reward rules (for example: different browser/device, unique email, new customer). These actions are eligible for rewards.
Low Quality
Events that do not pass Extole’s quality and reward rules (e.g., same browser as advocate, similar emails, or existing customer). These actions are not eligible for rewards.
All Quality
All recorded events, regardless of whether they are high or low quality.
Quality in Extole Reporting
Why High Quality Matters: High quality events make sure rewards go to authentic referrals and help maintain program integrity.
Why All Quality Matters: Events not rewarded still bring value, for example, if a lapsed customer makes a purchase after being referred, even if they aren’t eligible for a reward. Viewing all activity (not just rewarded activity) can help you measure the broader impact of your referral program.
