A key feature of the Extole platform is the ability to track and reward not only at key events, like conversions or account openings, but at interim steps—like sign ups. When referred friends sign up for your emails using the Friend Email Capture creative, we create a signed up event that, after passing Extole quality rules, will trigger an email to the friend containing a reward.
Why Email Capture
There are three primary reasons you may want your program to capture friend emails:
Email List Growth is a Primary Goal - if one of your main objectives for your referral program is to grow the size of your email list, requiring referred friends to opt-in to receiving emails will have a meaningful impact.
Self-Referral Concerns - by requiring referred friends to register for email in order to receive a coupon code, you can take advantage of more Extole quality rules including self-referral checks based on email.
Strong Social Response - if your advocates are sharing frequently and effectively on social channels, friend email capture helps de-anonymize traffic to your site from those share links. In addition to more data insight for you, your advocates will earn more rewards.
To import the friend emails that your program captures, you can run one of the following Extole reports:
Advocate Opt-In Report
Friend Email Capture and Opt-In Status Report
The Advocate Opt-In Report shows all advocates who have opted in to receive further email communication. The Friend Email Capture and Opt-In Status Report shows friends who have opted in or out.
Key Note About Fraud Protection
If you are concerned about fraud, it is important to know that if you deliver the coupon code on the Friend Landing Experience, you are not guaranteeing that the user has access to the email address they enter. For example, they could enter any email address that they think would get them a coupon code.
How to Enable Email Capture
Configure email capture settings in the Friend Landing Experience creative.
Go to the Campaign Editor.
Open the Friend tab.
Select the Landing Experience creative.
Search for the settings prefixed with Email Capture Panel to edit the display before an email is captured
Search for the settings prefixed with Success Panel to edit the display after an email capture passes quality or rewarding rules.
Note: You can also edit more advanced settings here by checking the Advanced filter in the top right.
Once all of your settings are set up, don't forget to hit Apply and Publish Changes.
