People Who Took a Specific Action Report

Updated over a month ago

Overview

The People Who Took a Specific Action report is one of our most powerful reports. This article will walk you through how to run the "People Who Took a Specific Action" report for different questions you want to answer.

Please note that while this report can be used to answer questions about ANY kind of program, the questions we've listed below most commonly apply to retail Refer A Friend programs. If you'd like to learn which steps to configure in this report for non-retail and/or non Refer A Friend programs, please reach out to your CSM and they will be happy to assist you!

To run this report, please navigate to the Reports tab within My Extole.

Configuration

Filters

Aside from steps, which we'll address below, the People Who Took a Specific Action report has a number of things you can filter by:

  • Time Range: This defaults to "Last Day" and is the range of data that will be in the report. Learn about the dates you can declare as needing to show as a time range option by reading our Timeline Dates article.

  • Period: This defaults to "None". It is the way that your data will be grouped. For example, if you set your time range to "Last Month" and your period to "Week", this will count the data from the last month, grouped by week.

  • Quality: This defaults to "All" and indicates the quality of the step (which we'll discuss below). You can choose to filter by steps of all quality, only steps of high quality, only steps of low quality, or steps without a quality.

  • Visit Type (under "Advanced"): This defaults to "All" and indicates the type of visit that the person made. You can choose to filter by people who you have seen for the first time ("New To Client"), who have visited the program for the first time ("New To Program"), or who have visited the campaign for the first time ("New To Campaign").

  • Container (under "Advanced"): This defaults to your production container. You can choose to instead run this report for only people in your test container.

  • Unattributed Events (under "Advanced"): This defaults to off. If you toggle it on, you'll see events that have not been attributed to Extole. For example, if we're looking at conversions and this is toggled off, we'd only show you conversions that are attributed to Extole activity. If this is toggled on, we'd show you all conversions that you're passing us.

What's a step?

Steps are the events in your program. These events typically have an actor (either a friend or an advocate) as well as an action.

Advocate Funnel

  • Q: Who were the advocates who viewed a promotion (e.g. a global header, a global footer, an overlay, a confirmation autopop, a mobile notification) in my program? [Note: viewing a promotion is specifically viewing an on-site or in-app promotion.]

    • Step name: promotion_viewed

  • Q: Who were the advocates who opened a promotion email (e.g. a welcome email, a mail after purchase email, a stats email, or a reward email*) in my program?

  • Q: Who were the advocates who clicked a promotion (e.g. a global header, a global footer, an overlay, a confirmation autopop, a mobile notification) in my program?

    • Step name: promotion_clicked

  • Q: Who were the advocates who viewed a share experience (e.g. the share experience itself, a referral page, a microsite) in my program?

    • Step name: shared

Friend Funnel
