Overview
Typically when your customers share, they will be either sharing your entire company or a specific offer to the friend. It's also possible to allow the customers to share information about a specific product or category as the focus of the share message. In this case, the share link will lead friends back to the specific product or category page on your site.
This features is most commonly used in Drop A Hint programs, but can also be set up for Refer A Friend.
Marketing Tag Placement
If you want to allow customers to share specific products, then the "product" marketing tag must be placed on your category and product pages. The Share Experience will read the Facebook OpenGraph meta tags off of the page and incorporate the product name, description, and image into the share message. Since most sites have OG tags to help improve SEO and EdgeRank, there is typically no extra development required.
Campaign Edit Setup
Go to the Marketing tab in Campaign Edit and select the Product Page placement. If you don't have the Product Page placement, please reach out to customer support to get it added to your campaign. Once you have selected the Product Page, find the toggle for "Content Sharing Zone" and make sure it is enabled. This will allow CTAs placed on product or content pages to share the content from the page rather than the default content.
What if I don't have OG Tags?
The Extole recommendation is to put OpenGraph tags onto your site since that will improve your site's overall SEO and EdgeRank. However, you may want to share content from a page that understandably doesn't have these tags. For example, you may want to let people share a product from your order confirmation page, which would not have OG tags.
In these instances you can include the content you want to share into marketing tag passed to Extole rather than tagging your page. Your developers can read about this on the Extole Developer Center.
